Machine Operator - 2nd Shift

MERRILL, WI Northern Wire - Part of the Elgin Fastener Group - 2nd Shift Positions --- Looking for PERMANENT AND SEASONAL (with opportunity to convert to permanent).

The Machine Operator will operate equipment for highly repetitive and/or standardized work, which form wire pieces into predetermined shapes. This process needs to be completed timely, safely, and efficiently while producing a quality product, and meeting customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Safely operate equipment, completing single piece operation with precision. This requires picking and placing various wire parts into and out of machine while meeting production rates.
  • Perform a visual check on completed parts and check parts using proper gauges and samples, ensuring they are within the customer’s specifications, and documenting these checks on the job card.
  • Comply with all supply procedures.
  • Produce accurate product quantities by using the counter.
  • Maintain minimum operating rate.
  • Ability to turn the machine on and off (using adjustable safety die block) when needed.
  • Able to work over-time hours as necessary determined by business need.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Potential for irregular work schedules including overtime due to manufacturing fluctuating needs.
  • Work 100% of the time in a manufacturing setting near mechanical moving parts, either sitting, standing or walking.
  • Withstand frequent repetition of fingers, hands, wrists and shoulders.
  • Bending and lifting wire parts from bins (between floor and waist height). The bins are placed adjacent to workstation, individual parts placed in the machine weigh up to 10lbs., occasionally lift bulk parts weighing up to 25lbs. or more from bin to worktable - no more than 40 lbs.
  • Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping and grasping.
  • Ability to stand for a full shift in addition to walking, climbing stairs and bending as required.
  • Ability to work in other departments and on other equipment (within same skill level) when requested.
