Process/Tooling Engineer

The ideal candidate for the position will be a hands-on professional who will be expected to offer ideas and suggestions on improving the work processes to improve the utilization of resources and to contribute to the success of the team by achieving the overall plant goals set forth in the operation. 

Provide technical support to ensure our manufacturing operations can deliver conforming product on-time to the customer.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Take ownership of product from the receipt of the Purchase Order through the Delivery of Tooling and Documentation to the Operations Team. Coordinate with Sales, Operations, and Quality to realize customer requirements, industry standards, and schedule priority.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Review Order and all relevant Engineering Specifications. Coordinate with Applications Engineering on added/revised requirements that may affect pricing to the customer
  • Create Routing and a Bill of Materials in our ERP System (Epicor) conforming to customer requirements and company manufacturing standards. Work with Materials to identify approved suppliers for subcontract operations.
  • Create Manufacturing drawings and part-specific Inspection Documents, both In-Process and Final) identifying critical dimensions to customer applications and manufacturing tolerance.
  • Design of new or modified cold forming tooling reflecting safe manufacturing practices & conformance to dimensional requirements.
  • Adhere to and support EFG’s engineering policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain electronic document control and standardization to improve communication with organization objectives.
  • Provide technical expertise to help solve customer or application issues.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or 2-year technical college education plus equivalent work experience
  • Language: Fluent and well-spoken with good communication skills.
  • Preferred cold-forming fastener experience, including Tool Design of multi-die equipment.
  • Excellent computer skills which include:
  • MS-Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • AutoCAD LT
  • DEFORM or similar programs not necessary but preferred.
  • ERP experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of standard engineering practices
  • Strong organizational skills, able to work independently prioritizing tasks
  • Strong focus on ‘Doing it right’
  • High passion, energy, drive, and intelligence
  • High levels of initiative and curiosity
  • Strong sense of urgency

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate computer and keyboard; able to use phone; sit for long periods; communicate using speech, hearing and vision skills. Travel possible up to 10%

Additional Qualifiers:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 
  • Review customer drawings and inquiries 
  • Determine manufacturing methodology, rates, and material requirements. 
  • Provide cost data for quotations. 
  • Assist customers in developing the optimal product. 
  • Design and prepare product drawings, operations sheets, process instructions, FMEAs, and process flow diagrams. 
  • Design all necessary tooling and fixtures required for product manufacture. 
  • Provide manufacturing support on equipment, tooling, and processes. 
  • Provide engineering assistance to the tool crib and tool room in the tooling/fixture manufacture. 
  • Establish bills of material, routings, production rates, and enter data into business computer system. 
  • Identify methods for improving efficiency, reducing waste, re-organizing work flow, and establishing product packaging and warehousing methods. 
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
  • AutoCAD and ERP system software 
  • The Process/Tooling Engineer is responsible for the manufacturing support required to successfully produce product lines. This includes establishing product definition and documentation, providing customer service, identifying the optimal production method, designing tooling, supporting production, reducing costs, and improving quality. 
  • Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Moderate noise level environment.
